Selena
She was an artist, performer, creator and challenged boundaries in the musical world. She was an Mexican American artist who was both traditional and modern. She united both worlds and brought Tejano music to the forefront. Similar to how many people mourn a star who passed away too early, her passing was premature and destroyed the progress of her career. In order to prevent her successes from going unnoticed, many fans over the last few years have been motivated to go further. Selena, the Tejano performer who fatally shot dead in a shooting accident, caused the Latino reaction that can be compared with the response to the deaths of Elvis Presley and John Lennon's deaths. An enormously popular singer in Latino communities across North America her music crossed borders of culture to impact the lives of children and old alike. Selena may have been hailed by some as a Latina Madonna, however she's still a fantastic character model. Selena's values of family life offstage as well as her involvement with AIDS awareness campaigns make her a good example.
